Citronella Anti Bark Collar – Important Recommendations
It is believed that citronella anti bark collar is the most effective and quickest method when it comes to reducing a dog from barking excessively. This kind of collar works better than a static collar (also called e-collar), or an ultrasonic collar. Besides, they are considered the best device in terms of dog-friendly.
In general, a citronella bark collar releases natural oil towards the dog’s snout whenever he barks above a certain level of decibel. The oil will disturb him and cause him to stop barking since most of the dogs do not like this kind of smell. The smell is unpleasant to them.
The good thing is a dog can learn the reason of getting sprayed quickly. This means the training process is quite quick. It usually does not take more than a few sprays. There are some in-depth studies showing that citronella bark collar is more effective than a static collar.
Studies also show that ultrasonic collars do not work on a lot of dogs. In fact, citronella collars work for most of the dogs. In some cases, they are the only solution for controlling barking as other methods fail to do so.
There are situations you should not use these collars as it is considered unhuman. For example, when your dog barks because of fearing something, or he is suffering from a separation anxiety. With that being said, it is best to figure out the reasons of irritating barking before using any kind of bark control method.
In case your dog has other heath related problems, it is advisable that you ask your Vet since there might be a better solution other than applying an anti bark collar. In reality, you will make the problems becoming worse when you insist on using a collar on an old dog. This is because he will be confused on what is happening, and the collar will only emphasis that fear a lot.
So, no matter what you will do, you should ask your vet before you decide to apply a bark modification method. This will help you to make sure that the barking of your pet is not caused by a medical related reason. Once you are sure about this, you can invest in a citronella bark collar to take the moment of peace back. Do not forget that these collars are considered a human and effective way when it comes to reducing excessive barking.

Messy at first but does work,
I got this product after much thought and research for my 7 year old European Burmese who tends to be restless and anxiety prone. In the past he has also had problems with aggression toward another cat in my home and spraying.
He has been on 5 mg of Prozac for the past 3 years and each time I have tried to wean him off the Prozac his noisy, restless behavior comes back within a week or two.
I am a veterinary nurse at a feline exclusive hospital and our veterinarians are recommending these NurtureCALM Pheromone Collars for cats with anxiety and behavior issues. The feedback so far has been very encouraging. It is my hope that with the help of the NurtureCALM collar my cat will be able to be weaned off Prozac.
There are several things that I don’t like about the collar. It is made of a very stiff plastic like material that tends to crack and break easily. In fact the collar that I purchased was cracked in several places and the buckle was about to break off.
I ended up having to return the collar for a replacement. This was discouraging considering the high cost of the collar. The other big problem with the collar is that it is covered with a messy, flaky white substance. Apparently this is what “holds” the pheromone.
I was very concerned that it would have an unpleasant odor but it does not. The flaky white stuff is messy but I am hoping that in time it will be less so. Also, keep in mind that the collars only last about 60 days.
My cat has worn the calming collar now for about 4 weeks and I can see that it has made a huge difference in his restless behavior without making him dull. I am now giving him his Prozac every other day and he is doing well.
The flaky white stuff quickly dissapated, so it ended up not being a problem. I will continue to purchase this product and very much recommend it to cat owners who are experiencing behavior issues.

|this actually works.,
I have a psycho cat, you know, the kind that screams when my other cats approach her, compulsively scratches chunks of fur and skin off, and leaves little surprises for us in various parts of the house, including one foot away from the litter box. This collar is a miracle worker for her. While the obsessive scratching doesn’t entirely cease (because she scratches around her collar), the other psycho symptoms are barely noticeable. No more poop to clean out of the floor, no more bloody self-inflicted wounds to clean on her face. Highly recommended if you have one of these cats in your home.

|Not what I thought they would be….,
I used the calming collars in tandem with some calming drops for a cross-country move. I would say the calming drops worked more effectively than the collars. Based on other reviews of this item prior to purchase, I knew that the collars may or may not work on my cats. I would say that the collars did a good job – but would not recommend them on their own (if moving or in a car for an extended period of time). If you’re looking for a significant difference in your cats demeanor, I would not go this route.
I was also surprised by the collars themselves. It appeared that the white substance on them was the calming pheremone. I was expecting a fabric collar that was sturdier.
Side note: don’t use these as the cats’ main collars – they break pretty easily. I put these on my cats with their regular collars still on – had to grab one who tried to make a run from the car and the calming collar broke. Just an FYI.
